Hi

So, here I am, 31 years of age starting my first blog and learning Piano.

It’s been an old dream. My nun had a piano but I can’t remember her playing it. The dark brown upright piano just stood in a corner of her little apartment and served as a toy for me and my cousins when we got bored of watching TV.

When I was about 10 years old I inherited an electric keyboard model Yamaha PSR-510 from an older cousin then my parents enrolled me with a keyboard teacher. He would come every week for about two years. I enjoyed it, learn a few songs, could do some sight reading (at least for the right hand). Sometimes when I was visiting an auntie who had a piano, I tried to play it, but it had so many keys that felt so heavy and my left hand couldn’t do much, as the sound was so different from my keyboard.

With the teenage years starting, my motivation soon worn out. All those tacky wedding songs my teacher gave me to learn didn’t help at all.

Fast-forward to today. Every time I see someone playing the piano in a movie or in some tube station it gets me awed and thinking “I wish I could play like that”, but never seemed like a good time… “It takes so much space, it’s expensive, I’ll just give up like other hobbies, it won’t bring money home: therefore it’s useless” and all kind of excuse kept me just admiring.

Then, after discovering Facebook Market and seeing so many pianos being given away for free, I started actively search for YouTube videos of tutorials, music theory, rhythm. And also found the perfect excuse for a taster lesson: it could be a hobby to learn with my husband! It might be fun! We were thinking about activities we would enjoy doing together and the timing was perfect.

And it’ll be today, 12 November 2019, that we’ll do our first lesson. We still haven’t got a piano, as we’re deciding on models, budget, etc. But I’m really looking forward for it! I’m hoping I can keep my motivation high and to have fun whilst learning.

🙂
